Today, we read the book If You Take a Mouse to School, by Laura Numeroff. The children were prompted to pay close attention to the pictures because the mouse is very silly. The children were then asked which picture in the story is the silliest?.
Maria: when he sprayed something.
Walter: the mouse went to school way way far away.
Will: I liked the paint one, when he dropped the paints.
Collin: I liked the silly mess.
Ellie: When he made a house out of play-dough.
Harsha: Mouse.
Cooper: the block part.
EJ: I like the one where they put the lunch box on the shelf and they have to go back to school.
Dylan: the blocks.
Jackson: I liked the silly mess, too.
Finian: The mouse put the lunch box on the shelf. I like that part.
Sammi: The playground.
Caleb: I like his silly mess.
Bobby: the slides.
Maggie: I like the mirror.

Today we reread The Alphabet House by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. We also read How Do Dinosaurs Go to School? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague and Count My Blessings 1 through 10 by Salina Yoon. Last week we read Dr. Seuss's ABC . The books were displayed on a table and the children were asked which they liked the best. Unfortunately, our morning friends had already gone home.

9/5/13: This morning I explained to the children that Mrs. DiFilippo was going to be a little bit late because she had a doctor's appointment. This led into a wonderful segue for the question of the day--Why do people go to see a doctor?

Walter: Because they get sick.
Will: Because they get boo-boos.
Colin: They scratch.
Ellie: So we don't get sick.
Harsha: I go doctors.
Cooper: Mommy has a boo-boo.
E.J.: I get shots.
Dylan: They have boo-boos.
Jackson: I go to the doctor because I have the "pointmen".
Finian: Because they have a boo-boo.
